Introducing Birdwatching ExplorePACKS at RPL

Richmond, BC – Richmond’s many spacious parks and outdoor spaces present a rich ecosystem that is home to many types of birds and wildlife. Richmond Public Library is ready to help you explore our backyard with the introduction of Birdwatching ExplorePACKS to our lending library! These ExplorePACKS were made possible by a generous donation from Birds Canada, which was supported by Wild Birds Unlimited and Vortex Optics. In addition, this project was undertaken with the financial support of Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Each ExplorePACK comes equipped with everything you need to get started on your bird watching journey. The backpack contains a pair of Vortex binoculars, a lens cloth, a field guide, a pocket guide and two maps, and it has plenty of room to pack the extras you need for your outdoor birdwatching adventure.

The library currently has 10 birdwatching ExplorePACKS in its collection and they are available now for to borrow with your RPL card. Holds can be placed here https://yourlibrary.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S101C1398673;when placing a hold, you can request to pick up your ExplorePACK at any RPL branch.

In the coming months, the library will be creating an outdoor BC ExplorePACK collection that will include additional birdwatching, fishing, forest and hiking ExplorePACKS.

“During the COVID crisis, we were all reminded how important it was to slow down and re-connect with nature,” says James Casey, Fraser Estuary Specialist at Birds Canada. “Seeing the safe and inclusive environment created by Richmond Library inspired us to partner with them to ensure everyone in the Richmond community has the chance to discover and explore the most important bird habitat in Western Canada, the Fraser River Delta.”
